This short course is designed for friends and family members who will be supporting and supervising contact between children and their parents. The aim is to equip you with practical tools, realistic guidance, clear boundaries, and an understanding of the limitations of this unique support. It introduces the essentials you need to feel confident and prepared, including:
- The purpose, background, and limitations of friends and family supervising contact, which is crucial for effective family time supervision.
- Ground rules and expectations when working with parents.
- Effective communication and organization of sessions, ensuring a smooth process.
- Setting and maintaining boundaries to foster a safe environment.
- Emphasizing the child’s voice in all interactions.
- Key aspects of child safeguarding, including what to look for and when and how to step in.
- Strategies for looking after yourself and where to seek help, all fundamental components of family support training.
The child safeguarding course is delivered by trained and experienced professionals with backgrounds in children’s services, family support training, and contact services. To complete the course, you will need to attend all sessions and actively take part in family time supervision activities. At the end of the course, you will receive a certificate of completion and details for the after-course support.
Helping to support and supervise contact as a friend or family member can feel overwhelming, especially when emotions or relationships are complex. After completing our child safeguarding course, our support team will be available for up to six months to offer guidance in a limited way. This support is similar to having someone to reach out to when other professionals, like Cafcass or the courts and solicitors, have stepped away. Often, this includes signposting, general guidance, or simply a listening ear. If something happens during family time supervision and you’re unsure how to respond, or if you just need to talk through your feelings, you can reach out to us after your family support training.
Delivery: Microsoft Teams or a small group in person for our child safeguarding course and family support training. How: Option 1 is 4 hours in person. Option 2 is 2 x two-hour online sessions across two days for family time supervision. Cost: £150 inclusive of VAT, course delivery, certificate of completion, and time-limited follow-up support.
