Reunification is the process of building a relationship between a child and practitioner, using a therapeutic life story work approach to support the re-establishment of a connection both physically and psychological between the child and a separated parent. The primary long-term goal of this therapy is to re-establish trust, communication and time between parent and child, with progress always guided at the child’s pace. This programme often takes place during court proceedings, often after long periods of separation, when domestic abuse or high-conflict has impacted the child and parent relationship.

Timescales: Reunification is a progressive piece of work. It will always start with research and preparation work, then some time getting to know the child before delving into the actual work. For some children this is 10-12 sessions and for others it can be much longer.
