Counselling Service

Talking Therapy & Counselling Service, available to all, not just clients of SWFS

Change in the situation at home is a challenging experience for most families, regardless of who initiates the process. It can evoke a wide range of emotions, from relief and hope for a new beginning, to sadness, loss, and even guilt. With so many conflicting emotions, finding a safe and non-judgemental space to communicate becomes crucial. The intensity of this life-altering event can often lead to the need to seek counselling support. This can empower you to reach your own conclusions and navigate the path towards change and resilience in life choices in a confidential, supportive space.

Benefits of counselling

Counselling provides a safe space for you to navigate emotional life changes.

Our supportive environment can help process and ultimately come to terms with:

  • Navigating the heartbreak and grief of the end of a relationship.
  • Facing the uncertainties of a new chapter in life.
  • Processing difficult emotions like anger, bitterness, betrayal, self-doubt, anxiety, and fear.
  • Building resilience to cope with challenges and emerge stronger.
  • Prioritising co-parenting for the wellbeing of children, ensuring the past doesn't negatively impact their lives.

Cost & Location: We can offer 6 free counselling sessions with an initial registration fee of £30 This is currently being reduced to FREE of charge for any current clients of SWFS.

Sessions are around 50 minutes and can take place on MS Teams or Zoom platforms, in person or by  telephone call and will be discussed during the initial Client consultation with Nicola.

The Team: We can offer sessions with a Level 4 Diploma  Trainee Counsellor who has been signed as “fit to practice” by a Tutor as part of their final year placement. All Trainee’s are covered by Indemnity Insurance and work within the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) Ethical Framework.

Step by step:

Step 1 - Client emails to enquire

Step 2 - Nicola will contact the client, discuss the service and agree if it's suitable, complete the registration and agree dates and locations.

Step 3 - A period of 6 sessions is usually agreed, with a formal review between Nicola and the client after 3 sessions.

Ongoing sessions as agreed between the client and Nicola with reviews after every 3 sessions as standard.

Please note, as part of the ongoing service offered free of charge to clients a requirement will be for clients to provide feedback, which can be done in a number of ways which best suit the client.

Please note, this service is offered as part of SWFS services, but is managed separately and is completely confidential. Client records will be stored separately from any records involving child contact or other services offered by SWFS.

This service is currently only offered to those 18 years or older. If you are seeking support for a child or young person please reach out to us and we will signpost you if we can.

Costs:

There is no cost to active clients of SWFS.

If you are not an active client (or have not been active for more then 6 months) there will be a one-off £30 registration fee to cover the administrative costs.
